Summer Research Fellows
Each year the Hutcheson Memorial Forest Center awards a cohort of Rutgers University students, graduate and undergraduate, to conduct independent research at the forest. Ongoing and new research projects at Hutcheson Memorial Forest Center are eligible for funding.
The Hutcheson Memorial Forest Center is looking for two summer interns for an ~10 week paid internship with work primarily within the months of June and July 2025. This internship is an excellent opportunity to work in an old-growth forest, work alongside research ecologists, and learn how our forests are managed.
Internship Highlights
- We are looking for two summer interns for an ~10 week paid internship with work from June 2nd to August 1st.
- Internship stipend of $5,040 based upon meeting hour requirement.
Work Responsibilities
- Participate in canopy gap restoration and invasion research
- Trail and deer fence maintenance
- Plant native vegetation and remove invasive plants
- Learn the identification of common woody and herbaceous plants
Internship Requirements
- Currently registered student of Rutgers University
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Willingness to conduct field work in summer weather conditions, varied terrain, and with environmental exposures (e.g., poison ivy, ticks, etc.).
- Demonstrated interest in field ecology and management
- Available to commit up to 35 hours per week
- Meet the legal requirements to work in the United States
